Fun in Zion’s Natl Park

So Ben and I decided we’d get away for a few days and have one of our final getaways before our family becomes a threesome. Ben was on a break from school before starting summer semester, so I took off a couple of days of work, and we went to Zion’s May 6th - 9th. The only time we had ever been there before was about 4 years ago for just one quick hike while we were there with some friends - John Johnson and Brita. So this was the first time we actually got to explore the entire national park, and I have to say, it was amazing!!! We were able to explore and go hiking through pretty much all of the different sections of the park, and we were just amazed at the beauty of it all. (Ben was a little disappointed though because the narrows were closed to hiking because of the high water levels. He’s hoping to go there sometime later this summer with Nate…)

I wasn’t sure how I would do on the hikes being close to 7 1/2 months pregnant, but I was surprised at my own stamina, and other than feeling like I never wanted to move again in between hikes and at the end of the day, I was able to have enough adrenaline pumping to do fairly well on the hikes themselves. The big accomplishment was Angel’s Landing, which is kind of steep and turns into a pretty severe hike at the end. I wasn’t going to attempt it, except a couple of girls and their mom were telling me the day before that it wasn’t that difficult and that I would do just fine. They were right in that it wasn’t too bad, except at the end, where you are hiking on narrow ledges hanging onto a chain for support a lot of the time so you won’t fall off. A lot of people really freaked out that I was up there!! But the view was spectacular and definitely worth it!

Ben and I love the mountains and would definitely do this trip again! Next time with baby in tow…

I’m impressed that you are still climbing mountains and 7 1/2 months pregnant. Go Celeste! I hope to visit Zion one day. Maybe the next time I get to come out to visit…
